What is Gnosis?

The word Gnosis is derived from the Greek language and means “knowledge of an intuitive nature; the intuitive apprehension of spiritual truths.” Gnosis is a knowledge that cannot be arrived at through books or lectures, but rather through one’s own direct experience. This knowledge or wisdom, therefore, is not found outside of us, but within ourselves.

The aim of Gnosis has always sought to provide humanity with knowledge, keys and techniques for the full development of human and spiritual potential. The signpost of Gnosis has always pointed within, the goal of Gnosis is to direct the human being to the divine spark that lies within everyone and from there to begin the ‘work’ of inner transformation, so to once again unite with the inner particular individual spark.

Gnosis today is the modern form of an ancient system of learning which has existed through the history of man’s presence on Earth. This wisdom was not available to the public, but was revealed only to those who had been initiated into the mysteries.

The Gnostic teachings, as taught in Gnostic centres throughout the world today, comes from the writings and practices of a modern day teacher, Samael Aun Weor, who synthesised the precepts of the philosophers, mystics, and adepts of all times into an integrated and comprehensive system of knowledge and instruction. Gnosis, as unveiled by Samael Aun Weor, contains a synthesis of all the ancient mystery schools.

The 21st Century may offer much in terms of technology, but this era is sorely lacking in the qualities that matter: social ethics, human values, compassion, co-operation. In the ancient mystical traditions we see the wisdom that we can bring into our modern day lives to simplify, dignify and bring peace to our lives.
All the sacred wisdom of the world leads us towards one thing – the remembrance of our own divine nature.

MEDITATION – MASTERING OUR “MONKEY MIND”

Until we embrace our real identity as spiritual beings, we will always be searching outside ourselves for happiness. True happiness is already inside us. Meditation helps us to perceive the reality of our existence, free from the false concepts of the world that clutter our minds.
We learn techniques and methods to calm the mind and to activate the consciousness.

THE FOUR PILLARS OF WISDOM

We tend to see art, science, philosophy and mysticism as separate entities. But these profound ways of learning about the world around us and ourselves CAN be brought into a harmony within our psychology.
Art is the language of emotions. Science is the art of experimentation. Philosophy is the love of wisdom. And mysticism is the way to re-unite spirit and matter. When all of these combine in us we come back into contact with our true nature.

These talks will be followed by a short meditation practice. No prior experience is necessary. Cushions, blankets and meditation stools will be provided.

WEEKLY CLASSES

A weekly course of 33 lessons will follow the free introductory lecture series, starting on Tuesday 9th April 2024.

The 33 Lesson Series will be studied on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Each class consists of a talk and a guided meditation practice. Practices range from introductory techniques for relaxation, breathing & meditation, to practical keys that can be applied in daily life. No previous experience is needed. We ask for a $10 donation per week.

The five elements: fire, water, air, earth, ether. How to intelligently consume all of these and their esoteric importance in our constitution. The Sahaja Maithuna, sacred sexuality.

SAMAEL

The man known as Samael Aun Weor was born on the 6th of March, 1917 in South America, in Bogota (Colombia). At a young age, he was interested in many transcendental aspects of life – he wanted to know who we are, where we come from, and what is the purpose of life? He began to search for those answers in the different metaphysical schools of those times. He studied Theosophy, Masonry, the systems of Gurjieff, the Gnostic-Rosicrucian tradition, he practiced yoga, studied Krishnamurti etc.

By the age of 17 he was giving lectures at the Theosophical Society, and became a member of the Ancient Rosicrucian school (founded by Dr Arnoldo Krumm-Heller / M. Huiracocha) at the age of 18, which served to educate him in practical esotericism.

But after all that he felt something was missing. He became tired of so many theories and yearned to investigate, to awaken, and to enter into the path of initiation.

In his very first book, called The Doorway to Initiation or The Perfect Matrimony (1st edition) he explains that after many, incredible efforts, he found the key – or the Great Arcanum – that would allow him to prepare what the alchemists called “the sacred fire of the philosophers” and this granted him the fortune and immense happiness of beginning his process of genuine spiritual initiation. This occurred in 1947 and in 1948, the formation of a small organisation began, which soon after became an international one.

It was his book The Perfect Matrimony, at first – along with so many other written works in the 50’s and 60’s – that most identified the formation of the International Gnostic Movement. And from his second residence in Mexico, he wrote many other treatises about anthropology, psychology, philosophy, art, science, mysticism, Kabbalah, alchemy, medicine, etc. He wrote more than 60 books and gave hundreds of lectures. In essence, Master Samael taught the “Fifth Truth” or in other words sacred sexuality – as the synthesis of all religions, esoteric schools, cultures, civilisations, and races.
